The Oprah Winfrey Show had its last taping in 2011, the journal entries of those days include the following of a series titled ' Stand Up and Deliver'. As back in the early days of the Oprah Winfrey Show there were times when being a gentleman is decided by how men on the show respond as she approached the panel to thank them for being on the show that day. Sharing views of sameness or difference. Indifference even. Most shows were made up of an all female panel and as years roll the talk show hostess has a career of longevity and the panels begin to include equal numbers of men.
So. As gentlemen it only stood to reason they'd show manly respect by standing up for the handshake as Oprah walks down the panel thanking each guest for their participation on the show. Not so fast, according to this writers journals through the years - those who wore the aura of apt home schoolin' were slow to rise. Or didn't at all. Never mind actions off camera as this 'study' took notice of those men who rose without hesitation upon the approach of a lady!
DECEMBER - 1988. There were a colorful sweater or two worn on air as well as a hairdo which seemed to get teased bigger and even more so over the years. Even though Oprah was not my size the frequent show of style made this writer and many viewers wanting to go out and buy something she'd worn or contacting the show for a chance to get inside her close closet and pick out an outfit or two. The years found her televised into our front rooms five afternoons a week making her a trend setter in more ways than one. More women wanted to own that blouse, sweater, or skirt Those shoes. Wear their hair in a specific style because it flattered her and we wished to one day meet her mentor-Dr.Maya Angelou. We wanted to find ourselves in conversation with no judgments when life has one about to pull their own hair from its roots. This writer began to journal after Oprah mentioned doing it and finding it relaxing. And so an Oprah Show Journal was begun according to these entries begu in thke 1980's.
DECEMBER 5, 1988. This episode of the talk show featured 'Odd Couples' as its topic. Its kinda boring. Oprah wore black and ed. Her hair is full about her face like pageboyish, Black sweaters worn atop a red straight skirt has a red wrap scarf about her shoulders and waist.
There is a man in a grey suit in the audience with blonde curly haired wife - crouched up as way of standing I suppose? Upon her approach. Its the first 'almost' stand up in a long time.
DECEMBER 6,1988. Tuesday and a School Break Special pre-empts tkhe Oprah Show and its not on today.
WED. DECEMBER 7,1988. Gorbachev boots her airing.
DECEMBER 8,1988. Topic is 'Over Compulsive Disorders' - On the panel is a man over protective of his daughter.A women who strains ALL her foods. She turns her meals into liquids because of her fear of choking. Woman  pulls out air of eyebrows and eyelashes,legs and arms. Jessica compulsively washes her hands. Steve Strasser compulsively stops car to make certain he hasn't it someone on the road. Guest Dr. Rappaport uses the analogy the disorder is life a hiccup of the brain- a biochemical imbalance of the brain.
Oprahwore a gold long sleeved dress and gold shoes. Both men on panel stoop/stood as she approached for handshake.
